Planning your stay

When planning your trip we recommend that you keep a list of those things you want to see and those that would be nice to see or experience. Leave some time open to do nothing as well as time to do things that you did not know about.

The weather and lead time to visit some attractions plays an important part in your planning. Ask your hosts for advice; at A Tuscan Villa breakfast time is usually spent discussing the day’s activities. We check each morning to see if attractions are open.

We also provide large laminated maps of the various areas for guests while they with us. They have saved many a relationship between driver and navigator!!!

It is advisable to visit Table Mountain in the morning and on the first day possible after your arrival as you never know what will happen with the weather. The wind tends to pick up in the afternoon and the so-called Blanket could affect visibility. Mornings are however the busiest time of the day for mountain so be prepared for a wait. Don’t forget your windbreaker, as the temperature on top of the mountain is very different to that at the base station of the cable car.

A trip to Robben island could require a lead time of 3 to 5 days so arrange this on your arrival, if you do not have sufficient time for this trip that takes about 4 hours in total consider visiting the District Six Museum in the Centre of Cape Town. It tells the story of Apartheid from the man in the streets point of view.

Using the red busses for a trip around Cape Town is a must. This hop on Hop of system allows you to park in the waterfront for instance and then to visit the Centre of Cape Town and the Cable way station without having to find parking or dogging the traffic. A wise choice when you want to enjoy the scenery rather than stress about bumping your hire car.

Visit Cape Point before 12 am as the tour busses start arriving from that time and it gets rather busy. If you have seen the lighthouse you can spend the rest of day investigating the park at your leisure.

Please be aware of baboons in the Park as they can be a real pest if they see food.
