General > Frequently Asked Questions

  • In what way is A Tuscan Villa Guest House different to any other?

We try our best to make sure that you experience True Hospitality during your stay with us. It is after all people that make the difference.

  • Why do you call yourself a Guest House and not a Bed and Breakfast?

In a bed and breakfast guests would be expected to share some of the facilities with the owners, this could be a lounge or TV Room by way of an example. A Tuscan Villa is classified as a Guest House as the guests have access to their own lounge and living areas. Whilst as owners we live on the premises our living area is completely separate to that of the guests which allows the guest so much more privacy and the ability to interact with others as and when they want to.

  • Why is the Guest House called A Tuscan Villa?

We purchased the property from an Italian family (Cosentino) with the view to converting it into a guesthouse.

Renaldo Cosentino a builder by profession built the house himself as a family home using imported tiles etc and added very Italian styled features such as the Staircase.

We had wanted to reflect an African theme but realised very quickly that it was impossible to do so. We did however believe that Tuscany reflected much of what we wanted to convey, warmth in a relaxed atmosphere with above average quality and an attention to detail.

  • How do I know that what I see on the website is the same as what I will get?

We pride ourselves in the standards we maintain and have registered with numerous industry bodies that provide you with the reassurance that you will receive the appropriate level of service.

A Tuscan Villa is registered with the following organisations.

    • Tourism Grading Council of South Africa
    • Cape Town Tourism
    • FEDHASA. Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa
    • Portfolio Collection
    • Automobile Association of South Africa

Comments from guests and feedback from guests on various websites confirm that (WYSIWYG) What you see is what you get.

  • What accolades have you won?

We have only entered one competition to date, the South African Automobile Association Accommodation Awards in 2005. We were finalists in the large guesthouse category i.e. top 5.

Our biggest accolades however come from guests, we may get great feedback but the proof is in the numbers who return.

  • How safe is Fish Hoek?

Crime levels in the Fish Hoek area is extremely low if compared to the rest of South Africa.

It is quite safe to walk to the Central Business District and the restaurants in the evening and our children ride bicycles to school.

  • What precautions has the Guest House taken to ensure the safety of the guests?

Prevention is always better than cure, we have accordingly taken actions to ensure that we not a target for thieves.

We have a low staff turnover and trust our staff

We provide on site parking so your motor vehicle is not left in the street at night.

We have an alarm system fitted with panic buttons in each room. Should the panic button be pressed a silent alarm is activated with an armed response company. (Please do not press this button if you feel like tea in bed!)

All rooms have safes and we accordingly encourage you to use them.

  • How long should I spend in the area?

This a difficult question as we all have different reasons for visiting the area.

  • What are the check in and check out times?

    10.30 am and 14.00 respectively

  • We will be arriving early in the morning can we check in before 2pm?

Should you wish to arrive earlier than 2pm and check in we would need you to reserve the room from the day before. We do however allow guests to arrive and leave their luggage with us so that can start some sight seeing before the room is ready. We do try our best to have the rooms ready as soon as possible.

Our flight is only departing late and we would like to shower a few hours before we leave.
In this case you would need to pay for another nights accommodation.

  • Are you gay friendly?

We treat every guest as a guest.

  • I have special food requirements?

We try our best to make provision for Vegetarians and people with allergies etc. Please let us know if this aspect is an issue and we will try our best to accommodate you.

  • Can you arrange car hire?

Yes we do, the vehicle can either be collected at the airport or delivered to the Villa.

  • Can you arrange for us to be collected at the airport?

Yes, we have a number of transfer companies who undertake this function on our behalf. We only use registered companies. Their specific regulations governing these companies; unregistered operators tend to charge cheap rates. This becomes in a real problem in the case of an accident.
